Our humble beginnings
Gili Bumblebee Montessori started as a homeschooling project in September 2013, on the little island of Gili Trawangan, which has been known to many as a paradise island. We started with a class of 12 children, in a cozy class converted from an outdoor gazebo on the premise of a residential house. Now, we have expanded and moved to our new schoool, with a much larger outdoor area for the children to run free and explore.
In our efforts to reach out to the local community, we have started free classes for the locals, and also initiated collaborative projects with the local school.
Who are we
The school is jointly run by 3 shareholders, of whom all are either Montessori-qualified, or in the midst of getting their qualifications. Our shared vision is to make Montessori education accessible on the Gili islands, to as many children as possible, as we truly believe in the merits of the Montessori method in early childhood education.
The core underlying philosophy of Montessori education begins with the understanding that the role of the adult is to help the unfolding of the child’s inborn developmental powers. The child, from the earliest moments of life, is possessed with great constructive energies that guide the formation of his mind and the coordination of his body. Hence the Montessori approach is designed to support the natural development of children in a well-prepared environment.
With the Montessori method as the basis of our curriculum and practices, we also place strong emphasis on green education, creative arts, and mindfulness. In view of the dynamics of the island, we do ensure our children are equipped with the necessary level of competency in the event that they are to be transferred to a mainstream school.
